Our Beginning
The dream that would become The Monarch formed in the hearts and minds of Bob Chitwood, former Executive Director of Eastmont, and Beth Nelsen, RN, Eastmont’s former Health Care Administrator, as they cared for dying parents. Being a caregiver is extremely difficult and after their personal experience, they came out thinking, ‘There has to be a better way.’

The search for ‘a better way’ led to The Monarch, designed with patients and families in mind, space is plentiful and home-like comfort is the goal. Flexibility is key to accommodating the last wishes and desires of patients and their families. The staff who partner with local hospice providers to create a truly loving environment and guide patients and families is key to the success of The Monarch.
Eastmont believes that this exceptional care should also be extended to those less fortunate and so The Eastmont Foundation raises funds each year to support charity care at The Monarch.
Our Mission
At The Monarch we affirm the cycle of life. We care for the dying, give solace to the grieving, and educate the community.
The Monarch By Eastmont offers hospice care with intimate “home-like” comforts in a free standing house, situated in a residential neighborhood at 78th and Pioneers Blvd. The home has six large, private rooms and provides on-site 24/7 palliative care. The Monarch is designed to provide the best care for our hospice residents and their families. Our staff are experienced professionals in their field and provide nursing care as well as household duties to meet the patient and family needs.

Our Stories
Our donors have made a difference to these patients and their loved ones:
An infant whose family could not afford to continue to commute to Omaha to see her. By being at The Monarch the family was able to be surrounded by loved ones;
A woman fleeing domestic abuse who rode a bus for 60 hours to receive care in Lincoln near her sister;
A young man who had been isolated and alone in his apartment;
An adolescent boy whose family had only recently immigrated to the United States;
Men who have spent their lives homeless or incarcerated; and many others.
